RALEIGH (April 27, 2012) - On Monday, April 30, the North Carolina NAACP, NC Justice Center, UNC Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity, Institute for Civic Engagement and Social Change at North Carolina Central University, and AARP of NC will begin the third leg of the “Truth and Hope Tour of Poverty in North Carolina,” a state-wide tour of rural counties and inner city neighborhoods where North Carolinians have struggled to find work, decent housing, transportation, and sufficient food for their families.

Departing from Durham on April 30, a bus full of activists, reporters, foundation leaders, students and scholars will travel to communities in Piedmont and western North Carolina, engaging in town hall meetings, sessions with local leaders, and tours of neighborhoods directly affected by poverty. Members of the press are encouraged to attend events and join the bus tour to engage in this crucial event.

MONDAY, APRIL 30

7:15 a.m. – DURHAM. Bus departs from NAACP State Office, 114 W. Parrish Street, Durham. Media welcome.
8:30 a.m. – GUILFORD COUNTY. Walk from homeless shelter to Interactive Resource Center for press   conference. 407 E. Washington Street, Greensboro.
9:45 a.m. – ROCKINGHAM COUNTY. Rockingham Community College, Advanced Technology Building, 215 Wrenn Memorial Drive (Highway 65), Wentworth.
