SEPTEMBER 25, 2012 in Wilmington

Special thanks to Frankie Roberts and Leading Into New Communities (LINC) for hosting this listening session for residents of the Marvin Roberts Transitional Living Center in Wilmington, NC. In addition to speaking eloquently and revealingly about the barriers they have confronted, most of the 30 or so participants volunteered to take action by coming to the NC General Assembly, meeting with their elected representatives in Wilmington, recruiting members to our Alliance, and/or sharing their reentry stories on a "Faces of Reentry" video.

Acting as the "House" and "Senate," participants propose changes in the law that would provide better opportunities for success to individuals with criminal records.

Attorney Daniel Bowes explains the few tools of relief currently available, including expunction, certificates of relief, Title VII, and the FCRA.

AUGUST 28, 2012 in Charlotte

More than 25 directly impacted individuals braved a stormy evening to share their reentry stories and speak out for reform. Special thanks to Erik Ortega and the Center for Community Transitions for hosting the session.

Participants introduce themselves to one another and describe the biggest barriers they face because of their criminal records.   Second Chance Alliance member Daryl Atkinson discusses his experiences as a person with a criminal record and his work as a licensed attorney.

Participants break into groups and propose laws and resources that would help reduce barriers to reentry.
