RALEIGH (July 1, 2025) – The NC Justice Center applauds Senator Thom Tillis for voting with his conscience and raising his objections to Congress cutting off more than 600,000 North Carolinians from lifesaving health care.

“The U.S. Senate’s plan will eviscerate our state’s Medicaid expansion program, shutter rural hospitals, and take away food assistance from seniors, kids, and lawfully residing immigrants such as Afghan refugees who assisted U.S. soldiers during the War in Afghanistan,” said Nicole Dozier, Director of Health Advocacy at the NC Justice Center.

“It is shameful and deeply disappointing that Congress continues to ram forward with an arbitrary deadline to make life-changing decisions for millions of Americans without thought or debate,” added Dozier.
The NC Justice Center urges the U.S. House and our state’s delegations to vote no on the “Big Betrayal Bill.”
