The Vigil for Freedom and Racial Justice is an annual demonstration, call-to-action, and public platform outside the North Carolina Executive Mansion. Comprised of a small, regularly rotating group of people and organizations, our primary demand is that Gov. Roy Cooper uses his clemency power and all other means to decarcerate North Carolina immediately.

The Fair Chance Criminal Justice Project is a member of Decarcerate Now! NC, a broad coalition of North Carolinians calling for justice, fairness, and second chances for people incarcerated in our state prisons, especially Black people and other people of color.

On November 4, 2020, we began a digital campaign highlighting and addressing mass incarceration and state prison safety during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this campaign, we aimed to provide a public, high-profile platform to uplift the needs, voices, and calls for help from mostly Black, incarcerated North Carolinians.
