Statement from Rick Glazier and Bill Rowe of the NC Justice Center on the Trump Administration’s newest plan for family separation raids

RALEIGH (June 21, 2019) – The NC Justice Center opposes the Trump Administration’s mass deportation agenda, and is actively preparing with our partners and community members for the family separation raids on homes and neighborhoods that are set to begin on Sunday.

We understand that the ICE operations and the tweets that celebrate them are designed to create fear and chaos by targeting immigrant families. However, this goes beyond politics a it affects the lives of real people in North Carolina and nationwide. Doubling down on family separation, ripping away children from parents, putting people into cages and jails and tent cities, and fighting in court that detained children don’t have a right to soap or showers—all are evidence of a growing and dangerous form of dehumanization on American soil.

This is another ugly stain on our country’s moral standing in the world. Our organization will continue to inform and prepare immigrant communities how they can defend their rights, and continue to fight the xenophobic and discriminatory policies and practices of this Administration.
