RALEIGH (May 20, 2025) – The NC Justice Center condemns U.S. House Republicans’ continued efforts to cut Medicaid and the SNAP food assistance program for millions of Americans. These cuts are being pushed forward through a Rules Committee vote on the budget reconciliation bill at 1 AM Wednesday.
“At a time when Americans are facing sky high prices on everyday consumer items from President Trump’s tariffs, it is unconscionable that Congress is willing to stress the pocketbooks and wellbeing of our seniors, children, and families even more by cutting health and food programs in the middle of the night,” said Nicole Dozier, Director of the NC Justice Center’s Health Advocacy Project.
The proposed cuts and funding changes would dramatically disrupt the lives of millions of North Carolinians who rely on Medicaid and SNAP to see a doctor and have food on the table. In turn, these reckless actions threaten to stress other systems in the state.
