The North Carolina Justice Center is delighted to announce that Graig Meyer has been appointed as the organization’s next Executive Director.
Graig will lead the NC Justice Center’s continued work advancing economic opportunity and racial equity for communities across North Carolina. He brings more than a decade of leadership in the North Carolina General Assembly, where he served in the House of Representatives beginning in 2013 and most recently in the State Senate representing Orange, Person, and Caswell Counties.
“I believe that there is no organization more important to restoring North Carolina to our place as the Beacon of the South than the North Carolina Justice Center.” says Graig. “There is a future where we can once again prioritize decisions and policies that make our state safer, healthier, more fair, and more prosperous. To get there, we need a robust NC Justice Center as part of a strategic, impactful progressive advocacy community.”
A trained social worker and longtime public-school advocate, Graig has focused his public service on helping families connect to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Throughout his legislative career, he has championed strong public education, access to health care, economic opportunity for working families, and policies that strengthen communities across the state.
Before entering public office, Graig spent sixteen years working in North Carolina’s public schools, leading the Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate program, which achieved a 97.5 percent graduation rate and helped every participating student continue on to postsecondary education. Since that time he has continued working in the world of public education as a highly respected consultant.
“Graig has spent his career fighting for North Carolina families and expanding opportunity in our state,” said Letha Muhammad and Matt Case, Co-Chairs of the NC Justice Center Board of Directors. “His experience as an educator, social worker, and legislative leader reflects the values that guide the NC Justice Center’s work. We are excited to welcome him as Executive Director and confident that his leadership will strengthen the organization’s impact and partnerships across North Carolina.”
For three decades, the NC Justice Center has worked to ensure that every North Carolinian has the opportunity to thrive. Under Graig’s leadership, the organization will continue partnering with communities, advocates, policymakers, and supporters to advance policies that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and promote fairness across the state.
