Brendan Riley joined the NC Justice Center in July 2016 as a Health Policy Analyst for the Health Advocacy Project. Brendan also serves as a consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Prior to joining the Justice Center, Brendan provided training, technical assistance, and health policy analysis for North Carolina’s 38 federally qualified health centers at the North Carolina Community Health Center Association. Brendan represented the interests of FQHCs, their patients, and the broader communities they serve through his appointments to various statewide and national roles, including membership on the federal Advisory Committee on Outreach and Education (Department of Health and Human Services) and the Advisory Board of the NC Get Covered coalition.

Having specialized in helping health centers enroll consumers in health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act, Brendan uses his expertise in policy regarding private health insurance, as well as his understanding of the health care consumer experience, to inform the research, public education, and advocacy he does for HAP. Brendan also spent time supporting implementation of the ACA during his time working for Families USA, a national nonprofit health care consumer advocacy organization based in Washington, DC. Brendan holds a B.A. in Political Science from Davidson College.
