Statement from the NC Justice Center on Gov. Perdue's Executive Order

Statement from Bill Rowe, Director of Advocacy at the NC Justice Center:

"The North Carolina Justice Center commends Governor Beverly Perdue for her Executive Order this evening that will extend temporary benefits to approximately 25,000 unemployed North Carolinians. This is a support for workers, their families and communities, and will serve as a significant bolster for our state's economic recovery. Gov. Perdue was well within her purview to issue the order. It will be important for all policymakers to come together to address the root of our state's persistent unemployment through proven job creation. Thousands of North Carolina families can rest easier tonight knowing this critical lifeline has been extended."

The NC Justice Center will continue its efforts in urging federal policymakers to extend the emergency and federally funded provision of unemployment insurance through at least 2012. Visit www.tarheelworkers.org for more information about the center's campaign.
