(Raleigh, NC November 14, 2025) Health insurance is already becoming increasingly unaffordable and if Congress doesn’t renew the ACA enhanced premium tax credits soon, millions of Americans will see their insurance premiums double or triple. That could force more people to go without coverage and the care they need. Rebecca Cerese, senior health policy advocate, spoke with NC Newsline about this crisis and how it’s impacting people in North Carolina:

Lots of people rely on the ACA Marketplace, and then when these enhanced tax credits came into effect during covid, it made coverage more affordable for people. It extended the number of people who were eligible for them and really ensured that you weren’t paying more than 8.5% of your income on health insurance, which is still very expensive, but at least its more affordable for more people.

We’re just talking about a spike in premiums – this isn’t even counting deductibles, co-pays, and all the other things that smash patients in terms of cost when they’re trying to get care, said Rebecca Cerese, Senior Health Policy expert.
