Aaliyah Muhammad joined the Justice Center team in October 2022 as a Communications Specialist, transitioning from her role as a Quality Control Specialist at STOP (Supporting Transformational Opportunities for People) Inc. where she processed rental and utility assistance requests for hundreds of economically disadvantaged residents of Virginia’s Western Tidewater area.

Aaliyah spent three years as a research assistant for the African American Civil War Soldiers Transcription Project, which worked with online volunteers to transcribe the 200,000 muster cards belonging to the African American troops who fought for the Union during the Civil War, recruiting volunteers and spreading awareness on the impact Black soldiers made during the war effort. Aaliyah holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago in Anthropology and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies.
