This week, our litigation director, Peter Gilbert, spoke with Public News Service about why the community is speaking up about energy policies that hurt struggling North Carolinians.
Peter explained that rising electric rates are also increasing housing costs and falling on communities already overburdened and struggling, while contributing to increased fossil fuel use.
“Building this expansive capacity, much of which is going to rely on fossil fuels, is really only necessary because of these new projected data centers,” Gilbert emphasized. “It’s not driven by an increased demand for residential electricity.” – Peter Gilbert, NC Justice Center Litigation Director.
