NC Justice Center’s statement on ICE and CBP presence in North Carolina

(Raleigh, NC – November 18, 2025) The North Carolina Justice Center stands in solidarity with our immigrant community. ICE’s actions in the state are not only morally indefensible but also infringe upon the rights of our immigrant neighbors, leaving our communities gripped by fear, instability, and insecurity. ICE agents have openly used racial profiling, targeting members of our community based on the language they speak or the color of their skin, without regard to immigration status.

These egregious tactics are designed to create fear in the community and make it harder for workers to speak out in their workplaces, for children to access a sound basic education, and for people to access the health care they need.  At the same time as these reckless activities have increased, the Trump administration has closed off multiple pathways to lawful status, including limiting eligibility for asylum, drastically reducing refugee admissions, and arresting immigrants who are attending immigration appointments and trying to obtain lawful status. We condemn these attacks on basic human dignity that undermine community safety and harm us all.

El Centro de Justicia de Carolina del Norte está en solidaridad con nuestra comunidad inmigrante. Las acciones de ICE en el estado no solo son moralmente indefendibles, sino que también infringen los derechos de nuestros vecinos inmigrantes, dejando a nuestras comunidades presas del miedo, la inestabilidad y la inseguridad. Los agentes de ICE han utilizado abiertamente el perfilamiento racial, dirigiéndose a miembros de nuestra comunidad basado en el idioma que hablan o el color de su piel, sin tener en cuenta su estatus migratorio.  

Estas tácticas atroces están diseñadas para generar miedo en la comunidad y hacer más difícil que los trabajadores alcen la voz en sus lugares de trabajo, que los niños acceden a una educación básica y sólida y que las personas acceden a la atención médica que necesitan. Al mismo tiempo que estas actividades temerarias han aumentado, la administración Trump ha cerrado varios caminos para obtener estatus legal, incluida la limitación de la elegibilidad para asilo, una reducción drástica de las admisiones de refugiados y el arresto de inmigrantes que asisten a citas de inmigración tratando de obtener estatus legal. Condenamos estos ataques a la dignidad humana básica que socavan la seguridad de la comunidad y nos perjudican a todos.
