RALEIGH (June 28, 2019) – The NC Justice Center stands in support of today’s veto by Governor Cooper of a conference report budget that fails to invest in health care and public education while prioritizing tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy. Lawmakers should be prepared to swiftly sustain the veto.

This budget proposal reflects a culmination of failures and inaction from the General Assembly to increase coverage for lifesaving care and adequately fund public education. We look forward to meaningful negotiations on a compromise budget that closes the coverage gap through Medicaid expansion and makes sound investments in the public good.
