MEDIA ADVISORY: Backwards Race on Tuesday Calls Attention to Backwards Budget

About 100 runners will race backwards around Halifax Mall; visuals, including themed awards, are expected

What: Participants will race backwards around the Halifax Mall to protest the backwards state budget.

When: Tuesday, June 19th. Race starts at 12 p.m.; awards ceremony with speakers on impact of budget cuts at 12:15 p.m. (Race registration begins at 11:15 a.m.)

RALEIGH (June 19) – This Tuesday, the North Carolina General Assembly won't be the only group of people headed in the wrong direction.

To raise awareness about the legislature's “Backwards Budget,” Together NC is convening the first annual Backwards Budget .5K! Participants will race backwards around the Halifax Mall (located directly behind the General Assembly) to shine a spotlight on the legislature’s backwards approach to the state budget.

About 100 runners have registered for the race so far. The race begins at noon, with an awards ceremony and speakers on the impacts of the state budget to follow.

Visuals: 100 people running backward; a themed award will be given to the winner; some runners will be in costume, and all will provided with Backwards Budget .5k t-shirts; and one basset hound.
