MEDIA RELEASE: NC Justice Center to honor the 2022 Lifetime Champions of Justice at ceremony in Durham

RALEIGH (September 9, 2022)– Every year the NC Justice Center celebrates the inspirational work of our community’s outstanding leaders who have dedicated their time to the fight for justice at our annual Defenders of Justice Awards. These few exemplify our mission — they are working to eliminate poverty in North Carolina and advance progressive and inclusive policies.

This year, the NC Justice Center will recognize seven honorees with the Lifetime Champions of Justice Award at an event on Sunday, September 18, at 5 pm at Durham’s Washington Duke Inn.

Gerda Stein—Retired Director of Public Information, Center for Death Penalty Litigation

Jeff Dillman—Former Co-Director of Housing, Legal Aid NC (Posthumously)
Norma Marti—Retired Advocate, Women’s and Children’s Health Section at NC DHHS
Jane Pinksy—Director, NC Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform at Common Cause NC
Dr. Dudley Flood—Retired Educator and School Integration Pioneer
George Hausen—Retired Executive Director, Legal Aid NC
