Together NC will hold press conference to call on legislators to preserve vital public investments, include reform-minded revenue solutions in budget
The budget coalition, with more than 120 organizations, will remind legislators of the link between the economy, the state budget, and future prosperity
WHEN/WHERE: Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11:00am in front of the Legislative Building on 16 W. Jones Street, Raleigh, NC
RALEIGH (Feb. 22, 2011) – Together NC coalition members and speakers representing a wide-variety of public investments will gather to send North Carolina legislators a message as they begin to craft the state budget: wise public investments and forward-thinking, balanced solutions are the best way to keep the state moving forward. Cuts alone, the group says, will not solve the budget shortfall nor get the economy moving again.
At the press conference on Tuesday, members of Together NC will touch on various public investments that prepare children for the future and make North Carolina a great place to live and do business. Speakers will also touch on the Governor’s recently released budget and provide recommendations for the course lawmakers should take as they craft their budget. Speakers will include:
• Pam Dowdy, Wake County Smart Start
• Allison Crumpler, a speech therapist and co-owner of Raleigh Therapy Services
• Dan Crawford, NC League of Conservation Voters
• David Heinen, NC Center for Nonprofits
• Rev. William Barber II, President of the NC NAACP
Together NC is a broad and diverse collection of 120+ organizations who have come together to promote wise choices for shared prosperity for all North Carolinians.
