LEGISLATIVE BULLETIN: Strengthen the State EITC, Don't Dismantle It
House Bill 93 proposes to eliminate the refundable portion of the state Earned Income Tax Credit, taking away its ability to help working families and boost local economies.
Eliminating the refundable portion of the state EITC would raise taxes on 1 in 10 North Carolinians. It would particularly hit low-income working families who pay a greater share of their income in total state and local taxes than higher-income families.
The state EITC helps working families purchase necessities, and because these dollars are spent locally, they stimulate the economies in all 100 counties.
