We Have a One-in-a-1.7 Billion Chance to Strengthen North Carolina’s Healthcare Safety Net and Address Health Inequities: Read the Newest Report

RALEIGH (May 6, 2021) — With the new federal incentive to expand Medicaid from the American Rescue Plan, the newest NC Justice Center report, “An Opportunity North Carolina Can’t Afford to Walk Away From” outlines five policy recommendations to invest in essential healthcare and infrastructure gaps that drive health inequities throughout the state.

“By investing the $1.7 billion dollars from the American Rescue Plan, North Carolina can both increase access to healthcare and dismantle institutionalized barriers that perpetuate racial and geographic health disparities,” said Will Munn, Senior Policy Analyst at the North Carolina Justice Center.

“In this together has been a rallying cry of solidarity and support, but more than ever, the pandemic has showcased the many inequities of our society,” said Hyun Namkoong, Policy Advocate. “The ARP allows the state to both expand Medicaid and have an extra $1.7 billion to invest and truly strengthen our state’s health safety net and address inequities.”
