Many supporters choose to make a gift to the North Carolina Justice Center through their retirement account, which can be a meaningful and tax-efficient way to support our work.

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. A QCD allows you to transfer funds from your IRA to a nonprofit like the NC Justice Center without the distribution being counted as taxable income. These gifts can also count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD), if applicable.

To make a gift this way, you can contact your IRA administrator and request that a distribution be sent directly to the North Carolina Justice Center. Because the funds must be transferred directly from your retirement account, please note that QCD gifts cannot be made through donor-advised funds or by writing a personal check.

If you are considering this option, we encourage you to consult with your financial or tax advisor to determine what is best for your individual circumstances.

If you have questions or would like assistance with making a gift through your retirement account, we are always happy to help and can provide the information your administrator may need.

Thank you for considering this impactful way to support justice for North Carolinians.

Transferring securities, including stocks or bonds, is an easy way for you to make a life-transforming gift. When you donate appreciated securities, you can avoid paying capital gain tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets.

The NC Justice Center has a brokerage account with Morgan Stanley. Please provide your broker with the following information to make a transfer of stock.

Donate through your Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

Give a gift for justice that also allows your investments to grow! Many NC Justice Center supporters give through a donor-advised fund (DAF)—a charitable investment account that makes it easy to support our work while enjoying tax benefits that allow you to invest more strategically. You may also choose to recommend grants from your DAF to the NC Justice Center each year! Make the most out of your gift today!

To donate, your DAF advisor can mail the grant with your name, contact information, and a check payable to “North Carolina Justice Center” to the following address:
