MEDIA RELEASE: NC Justice Center welcomes Rick Glazier as incoming executive director

RALEIGH (June 10, 2015) — We at the North Carolina Justice Center are thrilled to announce that Rick Glazier will become the next Executive Director of our organization.

As a non-profit seeking to end poverty in North Carolina, our mission is to fight for working families across the state. We undertook a nationwide search for a leader who shares our commitment to policies that will move North Carolina forward.

While we had myriad exceptional candidates for the position, one stood out as the next leader of the Justice Center.

When the opportunity came to work with a lawmaker respected across ideological lines and known to be a staunch advocate for North Carolina’s working families, we were ecstatic. Rick Glazier has proven at every stage of his life to have a passion for building a brighter future here in North Carolina.

“The Justice Center Board of Directors is thrilled to have someone with Rick’s broad experience, his personal integrity and his deep commitment to justice as our next Executive Director,” said Cathy Tamsberg, co-chair of the Justice Center board and associate pastor at the Pullen Memorial Baptist Church. “We look forward to having him lead our efforts to eliminate poverty and increase opportunities for all North Carolina citizens.”

Glazier announced his intention to resign from the legislature in a floor speech today, and will begin leading the organization once the current legislative session ends.

“It has been a unique honor to serve for thirteen years in the NC House of Representatives and now is equally so to be named as the new Executive Director of one of the southeastern United States’ most thoughtful, effective and distinguished institutes whose sole mission is to alleviate human suffering, where possible, and to improve the human condition for all residents of North Carolina,” said Glazier. “The Center is staffed by 45 incredibly talented lawyers, lobbyists, journalists, and professionals whose collective goals are to reduce the effects of poverty in our state, improve and sustain support for public education, provide equal opportunity and economic security for all who reside here, and assure equal justice under the law for everyone. Those are goals most North Carolinians share and, upon completion of this legislative session this summer, I eagerly look forward to assisting in the Center’s vital mission of making this state a kinder, safer and better place for all who reside and work here.”
